Solving Mathematical Story Problems

As a result of trying to help students appreciate mathematics in the context of the real world and improve their ability to solve story problems,  Multispan created patented systems and methods for solving mathematical word problems.   Many occasions of direct inspiration led to the development of a new generation of math and science educational calculators (called meaning calculators) that extend graphing calculators and use patented and proprietary technologies to formulate quantitative word problems.

As part of this initiative, we also developed and deployed an online book concerning Unified Mathematics that demonstrates the use of just Microsoft WORD to create a website.

Patented Ecommerce System

After analyzing the purchasing processes at the Mirage Hotel over a period of several months, Multispan’s founder Dr. Ranel Erickson received inspiration on several occasions when developing a new innovative bid-analysis system that greatly improved the purchasers’ productivity while cutting costs by ten to twenty percent.  This became the patented core technology for Purchase Pro, a spin -off venture that experienced a successful Initial Public Offering (IPO) during the dot-com era (2000) and at its peak reached  a market capitalization of more than one billion dollars.  This company grew to over 100 technical employees and contractors and serviced companies such as Mirage Resorts, Best Western Hotels, Walt Disney World, Marriott, and Office Depot.

ARIA Sports Book Display System

Multispan developed a Flex 3 application (that integrated technologies such as SQL Server 2005, mySQL, PHP, Linux, Mac minis, and high definition video screens)  for displaying sports odds information in the new ARIA Race and Sports Book and other MGM/Mirage properties.
